So a few days ago, I was asked to create a halloween costume for one of my best friends. She wanted to be “Queen of Hearts”, a character from one of my favorite childhood movie Alice in Wonderland. Now, when she asked did I know how to make the outfit, I said yes, knowing I could do it but I was unsure because it was something that I had never done. No way had I ever thought about using cards to create an outfit!!! But I said “You know what, I got this.”
Since I was younger, I’ve always been the type to think so much of peoples opinions of me which has strayed me away from designing and really using my creative talents, until one day I sat back and thought about what really makes me happy. I use to doubt myself until I recently read a quote from an anonymous person which states ” Don’t fear failure so much that you refuse to try new things. The saddest summary of a life contains three descriptions; could have, might have, and should have.” Meaning you don’t want to let life pass you by without perfecting your craft. Why wake up 10 years from now thinking “dang, I shoulda done that. I coulda done that. I woulda done that if…” Just do what you love “But Don’t Stop”…
This costume contains 4 deck of red playing cards, a yardstick, ribbon, tulle material, an elastic band and 2 bottles of Elmer’s school glue.
I bonded the cards together with the glue to creat the corset and high neck collar. I hand stitched ribbon to the neck collar to tie around the neck. To form the walking stick, I wrapped the ribbon around the yard stick and bonded it with glue and fanned the cards on the top for decoration. I hand stitched the ends of the elastic band together and single crocheted the tulle to the band.
Never give up on your dream because you are unclear about the future. Give yourself time to master your craft…♡♡♡♡
